Amsterdam, The Netherlands
1 City down, 54 to go.
I’m on the Eurolines bus now heading to Bruges after 3 amazing days in Amsterdam. The bus left at 10:30am and we’re due to arrive at 3:15pm. Amsterdam has gone down in my book as the most convenient city I’ve ever visited (so far!). Everyone and literally I mean everyone (young and old) rides a bike because its the quickest way to get around the city. There’s the tram, bus and metro as well so with our 48hr travel passes we had unlimited use of the public transport system for only €12! Bargain!
We visited heaps of museums: Rijksmuseum, biblical museum, Jewish history museum, Van Gough museum, Rembrandt house and Anne Frank house. Despite the enormous queue, the Anne Frank house was our mutual favourite because it was authentic, chilling and told a story, albeit a very sad one. Dan managed to sneakily take a snap of me by the bookcase to the secret annex. It was overwhelming, I had goosebumps throughout the tour.
The rest of the time we just spent wandering along the beautiful canals wishing we lived in a canal home (heheheh!), checking out the local markets and eating poffertjes or mini Dutch pancakes with butter and dusted with lots of sugar - ahhh so simple but absolutely divine!
